The 2015 Smoking Mountain Disc Golf Tournament.
Being in the centre of the North Island National Park is easy and fair to get to from both ends of the island. This year 27 players from all over the country and even Germany made the trip. The conditions were as not stunning as you'd like but certainly good for Disc Golf.
Des and the Lost Tribe crew had done a great job preparing the course out the back of Discovery Lodge and the locals all took the visiting players into their homes. It's one of the great things about our sport, we're only too happy to take on extended family for a weekend.
Both Saturday rounds saw the occasional peek of the impressive cones of National Park but for the most they were shrouded in cloud.
After the two Saturday rounds Mr Consistent Jacko Sullivan had a two shot lead over the ever green Simon Feasey with Auckland golfer Logan Papuni snapping at their heels.
Sunday morning and on top of the weather looking a little dodgy the All Blacks have a crucial game in the Rugby World Cup, a quarter final against France, so not surprisingly there were a few 'no shows' at the players' meeting and by tee-off for the afternoon's final round a few more had decided to call it quits.
Jackson Sullivan remained the most consistent over the weekend and took out a well deserved win 13 shots clear of Logan Papuni in second with another 8 shots back to local Blair Joines who took out the Masters title. The Grand Masters went to the Taumarunui legend Pete Boyle, the Woman's title to visiting German golfer Alessa Schwarz and the GM Woman's to the Bay of Plenty's Ming Menzies.
Congratulations to everyone who organised, ran and played in yet another brilliant round of the 2015 NZDG tour.
