February 25 & 26
The Island TD Brett Hailstone [bretthailstone at clear.net.nz]
Onetangi Sports Park, O’Brien Road, Rocky Bay, Waiheke Island, Auckland.
After a break from the tour for 2011 it’s great to welcome back ‘The Island’. Set amongst the Stony Ridge vineyards this course like the wine from the neighbouring barrels is maturing with age. The 27 hole layout is a good test of skills, especially if the wind comes up.
March 10
Queenstown Classic TD James Smithells [james.smithells at xtra.co.nz]
Queenstown Gardens.
This is one of New Zealand’s original disc golf courses and is now 18 baskets. Queenstown Gardens is on a small peninsula right in the heart of downtown Queenstown and played by hundreds every week. Your putter will get a work out here, even off the tees. [Note for NZDG Tour players .. points are earned over your accumulative scores from The Qt Classic and Paradise Plates.]
March 11
Paradise Plates TD James Smithells [james.smithells at xtra.co.nz]
Paradise, Glenorchy, Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown.
This is the only object course on the NZDG Tour. It’s just the most beautiful place to play disc golf. Set deep in the Southern Alps at the head of Lake Wakatipu, 1 hours spectacular drive from Queenstown. The view up the valley to the snow capped Mt. Earnslaw and beyond is something special. Half the course is in the open and the rest is deep in the virgin beach forest.
March 31 & April 1
Tauranga Xtreme TD Dean Marshall [marshall_law1 at hotmail.com]
McLaren Falls Park, Highway 29, Eastern Kaimai Rangers, Tauranga.
After a date change to summer in 2011 this event has been shifted back to autumn when the park is spectacular, the course is a real workout, even if you manage to stay on the fairways, but it’s a challenge worth taking on. Expect to loose a disc or two here.
April 14 & 15
King Country Classic TD Pete Boyle [pedro.boyle at xtra.co.nz] | NZDG 60 Point Major
Polo Cross Grounds, Miro St, Manunui, Taumarunui.
This event is played in an easy to get around flat park that the locals play every day. It will test just about every disc skill you have, but don’t expect it to be easy.
May 5 & 6
Gisborne First Light BCM PDGA C Tier TD Bob Gentil [bob at discgolf.co.nz]
Alfred Cox Park, Gisborne
This is a well laid out permanent 18 basket course, if your short game is good you can do well here. Plus it’s a beautiful part of the country to spend some time in. Bring ya surf board!
June 2 & 3
Gentil Sport Taupo Classic PDGA C Tier TD Bob Gentil [bob at discgolf.co.nz]
Spa Park, Taupo.
The general consensus is that Spa Park is the true test of all your Disc Golf skills. This park is kept in pristine condition and is a joy to play on. The course enjoys everything from elevated views of the Waikato River as it starts its journey north, to natural hot thermal pools on the 9th tee. If there is only one event you play, make it this one.
July 7 & 8
Freaky Styley Crater Cup TD Simon Feasey [simon at safe.co.nz]
One Tree Hill, Auckland.
One Tree Hill [Maungakeikei] is one of the most special places to play our sport; it’s the site of New Zealand’s very first Disc Golf course. The ‘Crater Cup’ is one of the oldest and most sort-after trophies in New Zealand. Traditionally the July weather comes to the party and makes this one of the most demanding and testing events on the tour.
August 25 & 26
Fault Line Fury TD Shane Sullivan [sharky04 at xtra.co.nz]
Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt, Wellington.
Harcourt is a beautiful park with handy accommodation right next door. The Harcourt Park Disc Golf Course layout is 9 baskets with two tees for each one. It works well and is a good test of your all round golf skills.
September 15 & 16
Christchurch Fling TD Pete Crowther [petercrowther at go.com]
Venue TBA
October 20 & 21 [Labour weekend]
Lismore Park, Wanaka / South Island Championships NZDG 60 Point Major
NZDG are pleased to announce that the South Island Championships have been awarded to New Zealand's newest course on the hills above beautiful Lake Wanaka over looking the Southern Alps. The course was launched last year with over 50 players at their inaugural event and has just been increased from 9 to 18 baskets with the assistance of some NZDG support. Congratulations to Martin Galley and the Wanaka Disc Golf Club.
October 27 & 28
Smokin’ Mountain TD Des Cooper. [ info at discovery.net.nz]
Discovery Lodge, State Highway 47, National Park.
Set under the gaze of the snow covered mountain caps of National Park in the centre of the North Island, this course gets better every year. Always a good one for the Ace Kitty!
November 17 & 18
Auckland Disc Golf Championships PDGA C Tier TD Bob Gentil [bob at discgolf.co.nz]
Monte Cecilia Park, Hillsborough, Auckland.
Monte is a brilliant park for Disc Golf. We have been battling the ACC for years now to have a permanent course installed but no luck as of yet .. maybe by the time this event comes around it will happen .. ya never know .. but in the mean time they do allow us to install temporary baskets for events so we can play in this ‘made for Disc Golf’ park.
December 8 & 9
NZDG Match Play Championships’
TD & Venue to be confirmed.

2011 Gisborne First Light
October - Bob Clark Memorial Disc Golf Tournament | Alfred Cox Park, Gisborne . PDGA ‘C Tier’.
The trip to the beautiful East Cape was well and truly worth it for the 8 out of towners. Sunshine, great company and some spectacular golf
From bare footed Mexicans to toothbrush carrying technicians to a rampaging rookie from Levin, this tournament had it all, including oil.

The Majors will be The NZDG National Championships, the North Island Championships and the South Island Championships, and will be worth 60 points. Obviously the National Champs are a stand alone event but the North and South Island Champs can be run in conjunction with another event. This year the North Island Champs will be in conjunction with the ‘Vegas Vent’ in the Rotorua Redwoods and the South Island Champs will be in conjunction with the ‘Canterbury Fling’.
Numerous events will be PDGA sanctioned ‘C Tier’ as well so PDGA members can compare their rankings with the world’s best.
There is also an opportunity for regions and clubs to run ‘Challenger’ tournaments which will be sanctioned by NZDG and worth 35 points. These need to be notified at least 4 weeks prior to the event and have at least 12 players.
There has also been some discussion regarding increasing the number of event scores that make up your over-all standing from your top 4 to top 5 but for 2011 it will stay at 4.
So what are you waiting for, check the dates and make some plans. We play in some of the countries premier destinations from Queenstown and Glenorchy in the South through to Auckland in the North, and in between there’s the majestic National Park, the challenge of Tauranga Xtreme, beautiful Gisborne on the East Cape, the awesome Spa Park in Taupo, The mighty Redwoods in Rotorua and plenty more.
See you on ‘the tour’.
